Kalari
- Chikilsa
|
Since
ancient times, Ayurveda had different categories and
different traditions in Kerala. Kalari Chikilsa is one
such unique tradition. Kalarippayattu, the superb martial
art form of Kerala, has developed a scientific and systematic
treatment and massage therapy based on ayurveda. Unlike
other martial arts, Kalarippayattu blends the indigenous
medical science Ayurveda in the learning process. This
traditional system of treatment is called Kalari
Chikilsa. Traditionally, the masters of Kalarippayattu,
known as Gurukkal among those who practice
this secretive martial art, are Ayurvedic physicians
as well. Ayurveda,
Panchakarma, Kalari Massage, Marma Chikilsa, Yoga-therapy
and herbal rejuvenation therapies like Marma Kizhi,
Navara Kizhi, Pizhichil, Dhara etc., are the important
branches of Kalari Chikilsa.

changes. This traditional method of massages harmonises
the body, enhances circulation of fluids, relaxing and
opening up energy pathways. Raksha Thirummu also helps
to rejuvenate, maintain health and beauty of the body
and to eliminate toxins from the system.

steam baths eliminate impurities from the body, improve
the tone and complexion of the skin, open up the pores
and removes the toxins of the body, reduce fat and are
recommended for certain rheumatic diseases, particularly
for pain. Precious herbs and herbal leaves are boiled
and the steam is passed over the entire body for 10

Yoga
- Physical mental well being
|
|
|
The
word Yoga comes from the Sanskrit root meaning
Yuj, meaning to unite. Any discipline or method that
unites one with the Supreme is called yoga. The practice
of yoga makes the body supple and strong but also strengthens
the nerves, purifies the blood, tones up the internal
organs and gives general health. Eventually, it will
increase the self-healing power of the body. To enhance
the therapeutic results, Kalari massage is combined
with yoga, pranayama and meditation.
Mental and physical exercises meant to isolate the ego
from the body and mind - designed to hone your concentration,
improve health and help attain peace of mind through
eight stages of training: 1. Disciplined behavior (yama)
2. Self purification (niyama) 3. Bodily postures such
as the lotus position (asana) 4. Control of breathing
(pranayama) 5. Control of the senses (pratyahara) 6.
Fixing of the mind on a chosen object (dharana) 7. Meditation
(dhyana) and 8. Samadhi - a state of being where you
experience absolute tranquillity and well being.
