Draped in cool colors, verdant
and azure, Kerala is famed as nature’s bounty
in microcosm. Its long shoreline with countless
sandy beaches, its serene backwaters, its lush
green paddy fields, its dewy hill stations, its
emerald forests with a fabulous collection of
wildlife, its spectacular rocky mountains, its
wealth of monuments, artifacts, and cultural forms
are a rare confluence of earthly beauty. What
is more interesting is that within a radius of
65 kilometers you traverse through all the earthly
hues, from the dizzying heights of the Western
Ghats(2700m above the sea-level) to the minus
sea-level Kuttanad, the rice-bowl of Kerala.
Kerala’s tradition of welcoming foreign
tourists with outstretched arms dates back to
the pre-Christian era.Its denizens have welcomed
not only alien people but also ideologies. Thus,
they embraced Christianity as early as in the
first century A.D.
Welcome to Kerala. Breathe
in the fragrance of its vegetation, take a dip
in its crystal streams, taste the aroma of its
cuisine, bask in its sun and sand, get rejuvenated
through ayurveda, mix with its vibrant people
and take home the memorabilia of a lifetime.
Cochin, the queen of the Arabian sea.
The city is a mine for those who seek to have
a glimpse of the past. Her numerous monuments
are testimonies of her checkered history. The
Vasco de Gama Church where the mortal remains
of Vasco de Gama were laid to rest, the Dutch
palace, the Jewish synagogue, the Santa Cruz
church, the Parikshit Thampuran Museum, the
Kerala History Museum, the Christian Museum
etc., offer a feast for the lovers of antiquity.
Drive off to Cherai and bathe in the sun on
the golden sands of the beach. Back in Cochin
you proceed to the jetty for a backwater cruise
and watch the sunset in the backdrop of the
Chinese fishing nets.
Travelling north, you reach Trichur, the cultural
capital of Kerala. Besides being the city of
temples, Trichur has the honor of hosting the
famous ‘pooram’ festival. A30-minute
drive from here, you reach Guruvayoor temple,
famous for the hundreds of weddings that take
place each day as well as for the musical offerings.
Not far form the temple is the elephant camp
where you watch the pageant of elephants.
From there, you drive off to Malabar, the land
of the Mappilas of Kerala. At its heart is the
port city of Calicut, the seat of the Zamorins.
Its suburbs were the cradle of the martial art
of Kerala known as’ Kalarippayattu’.
Besides the numerous monuments of historical
importance, Calicut offers you the rare experience
of the Kappad Beach whose shores are clad in
casuarinas.
If you are seeking peace and quietude, there
is no better way than spending the days in the
serene ambience of the backwaters of Kumarakom.
A night in the middle of the lake on a houseboat
is a rare and unearthly experience. If you wish
to be away from the mundane, to come back and
begin again, here you find the ‘birches’
of poet Frast.
Your appetite for adventure is best served
at Masinagudi where you trek through the virgin
forests of the Bandipur or you can stroll through
Periyar wild Life Sanctuary at Thekkady. If
you are sporty try a hand at bamboo rafting
or river crossing. If you have the guts you
can try and elephant ride
If your wish to be at giddying heights, we
take you the dizzying hills of the Nilgris.
At Ooty, you may graze through the sprawling
botanical garden, which is an unending source
of delight for the nature lover.
Down south at Kovalam and Varkala you have
some of the most preferred beaches in the world.
Besides quenching your thirst for sun and sand,
